Singer

N-Time Vocal Instruction
To provide all students with a source of personal enrichment, both for themselves and those with whom they may share the joy of music.

A - is for artists. Our aim is to help talented singers become real artists.

B - is for body.  We'll help you develop your voice to create fuller sound, and to use body language to be visually exciting and   believable on stage.

C - communication is what singing is all about. We'll help you find  the right wavelength to reach the audience and tell them a story that touches them.

D - design. I'll show you how to re-design the phrasing, so that any
song, even a well-known one, can become your personal interpretation.

E - emphasis. How to put natural nuance into your words, just as you do when you are talking, so that it really sounds like you mean what you are singing about

F - flexibility. A singer should be able to handle everything, from traditional gospel, contemporary, Christian, to gospel jazz.

G - is for giving of yourself. Everyone knows you have to sing with feeling.

H - is for (bad) habits which many singers have.  We'll clean them up and make better music.

I - imitating. is ok for impressionists, but for a song career it's a disaster. I'll help you develop your own individual style.

J - is for jaws which have to work harder to create better dynamics, which will make you much more interesting to listen to.

K - is for the knowledge we've gained in 20 years as a voice instructor. I'll teach you all I can about professionalism.

L - listening to yourself (afterwards) is very important for your
development. That's why we record every session.

M - microphone technique is easy to learn.

N - is for natural. Everything has to be natural - how you sound, the way you look and the way you move.

O - is for the orchestra of unique sounds we humans can make.

P - We'll help you put your own personality into your singing. Remember it's not what you say - it's what you think about it and the way that you say it that's important.

Q - is for quiet. Here in N-Time we have one on one coaching sessions.

R -   recitals. Twice yearly recitals help you prepare for performances.

S - is for styles. We work with all kinds of material.

T - technique. We'll help you with "tails", timing, vibrato and everything
 else.

U - is for understanding the singer's job. What, why, and how to do it.

V - is your voice. We can improve your range, power, sound and
projection.

W -  N-time welcomes students of all ages.

X - is for equations like : How you look =  how you sound and  Input + Output = Feedback.

Y - you have to make things happen and we'll help you do that.

Z -   zzzzzzzzzzz  is the sound of the  audience sleeping, and we don't want them doing that, do we ?

Some question whether or not they could learn to sing. There are so many myths about singing. Many people believe that only "special" people can sing, you have to be "born" with it, it is "too late", etc, etc. Anyone can learn to sing!

Because we use our voices everyday, voice lessons are more akin to physical therapy, dance or other athletic endeavors than instrumental music study. Singing is mostly awareness and coordination. It is also similar to learning to ride a bike or drive a clutch car. At first it takes an incredible amount of concentration but as you gain "muscle memory" eventually you go on "auto pilot" and you can then focus on other things. This is our goal and experience with voice training as well. Eventually you progress to the point where you don't even think about technique, you just focus on artistic self expression and the joy of singing.
